The Psychopedagogue is the professional who specializes in counseling and guidance, mainly focused on the field of education, although he can also intervene in human resources, family mediation, in the workplace and others, but above all he has specialized more in education.
A psychopedagogue is trained to advise, diagnose and program intervention proposals for children, adolescents, young people and adults who have learning problems or disorders. You can intervene in schools, in guidance teams and of course, in private offices.
He is also trained to advise and help people in the following tasks or situations:
- Make decisions about your studies and your future work. What can I study? What educational alternatives exist? How does the educational system of Spain work? What do I have to study and learn to be able to practice the profession I want? And how do I look for work? This subject is known as “career development” or vocational or professional guidance.
- Advise families on how to talk to their children and give them positive education for their personal development and personal well-being.
- Help families resolve conflicts that have arisen with their children.
- Evaluate the possible difficulties that children and adolescents have during the study of school materials, with a view to planning reinforcement and/or extension programs.
- Program an educational support system with a series of contents and sequenced tasks with a view to promoting the development of your children, reinforcing those learning and skills that are most difficult for them (reading, writing, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, learning of languages, etc.).
- Treat those children and young students who have low self-esteem.
- Help those children and young people who are using very inadequate study techniques, or have anxiety problems before exams.
- Promote early and cognitive stimulation of children and adolescents: Attention, social skills, emotional intelligence, creativity, spatial and temporal orientation, language, metacognition, etc.
- Advise families of children who have difficulties controlling their sphincters, that is, difficulties controlling poop and urine or pee. That is, intervene in elimination disorders (enuresis and encopresis).
- Deal with cases of students who are suffering from bullying. It includes psychological support for both children and their own parents.
- Work with those students who are at risk of academic failure.
- Advise and program extracurricular expansion and enrichment projects for people who may have high intellectual abilities (intellectual giftedness) or who have specific talents.
- Advise families about the evolutionary development of their children, from childhood to adolescence and adulthood.
- Diagnose educational needs, and plan and evaluate actions to address possible specific educational support needs (NEAE) that your child may present: Learning difficulties, high intellectual abilities, disabilities (visual, intellectual, auditory, motor or physical, etc.), disorders development, serious behavioral disorders, emotional problems, etc.
- Advise and train professionals in the educational sector and families (Mothers and Fathers Schools).
- Respond to queries on any topic related to the educational field, carrying out the relevant research tasks.
